Dorateymur

Turkish-born, London based millennial designer Dora Teymur decided to launch his namesake brand already during his second school year at the London College of Fashion in 2012 where he was studying Footwear and Accessory design. Teymur was obsessed with mules, shoe style that is actually the hardest shoe style to design – and to sell. At lest in 2012 when the old lady from the neighbourhood would probably know better than us what a mule shoe even is. Everybody was of course saying this to Teymur but he wouldn´t listen. By the contrast he designed a whole shoe collection that exclusively consisted of mules.

And look now the mules – a shoe style that everybody wants to spend their money on. And as we would think that mules is a problematic shoe model in itself: after all it is a shoe that doesn’t have any counter and actually feels a bit odd to walk on. But no, all these factors didn´t slow down Dora Teymur. He took and takes all the assumptions even further and designs this particular shoe model from glitter and patent leather with red lining and big adornments. And everyone just fell in love even more.

And the story certainly doesn´t end on mule shoes for Dorateymur. Later he has done several other succesfull shoe models as well. His square toe block heel booties and sculptural pointed toes are everywhere. For example the retro inspired Radio boot with Louis XV heel is already a Dorateymur cult bootie. Fused classics like Harput Loafers and square toe ankle boots Sybil and Nizip have already become essentials in our shoe collections. And of coarse the high heeled Munise mules. Dora Teymur has actually once said in an interview that he is afraid of feet. This is probably the reason he wants to work towards hiding them. And for the most - to hide them with elegance.

You may imagine many designers as for great examples of monotonic and comfortable style. Here again - Teymur is an exception. This man loves bourgeous style, bling bling and colours. Victorian dandy inspired shirts and vests, big rings and red socks with irish dance shoe inspired dress shoes are the corner stones of his style. His style may sound a bit of an overstatement but as with everything: he has the point of view and eye for balanced overall impression. Teymur has once told in an interview that if he would be a fictive person, he would be Lena Dunhams character Hannah Horvath from the Girls and if he could choose a person he would live rest of his life with, he would choose a singer and songwriter Dave Gahan from the Depeche Mode. As an inspirational muses Teymur list persons like Carolyn Kennedy and Whitney Houston in contrast to modern-day Mozart and Marie Antoinette.
